The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation provides funding for The Preservation Compact and its partner programs and is a long time supporter of balanced housing policies that acknowledge the importance of affordable rental housing and help low- and moderate-income families improve their lives.

The Foundation’s $150 million Window of Opportunity: Preserving Affordable Rental Housing Initiative, launched in 2003, has given grants and low-cost loans to over 25 regional and national rental housing organizations in 37 states. In addition, MacArthur has partnered with 14 different state and local jurisdictions to identify and help replicate innovative polices and practices, such as improving the energy efficiency of multifamily developments as a way to help owners and renters save.
