The Chicago City Council recently passed an ordinance requiring energy benchmarking of commercial, residential, and municipal buildings over 50,000 square feet. The ordinance requires that buildings track and verify energy consumption using Portfolio Manager, a free web-based tool administered by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
A blog post from CNT Energy explains the role of Portfolio Manager in the benchmarking ordinance. Portfolio Manager tracks the energy use of a building or portfolio over time and compares an individual building’s performance with similar commercial buildings nationwide. The blog post sheds light on Portfolio Manager, including what metrics are tracked, how it works, and where to go for further help. Stay tuned for future posts on this topic from CNT Energy.
