Last week, Mayor Emanuel announced the first round in a series of reforms to streamline the City’s business inspection process. While the initial improvements are aimed at restaurants, more reforms later this year will modernize the scheduling of inspections, make inspectors more consistent, and focus on higher risk buildings and businesses. A Preservation Compact working group shared a very similar set of recommendations in February with the Mayor’s Innovation Delivery Team and the Department of Buildings. The working group, comprised of property owners, developers, civic leaders and tenant organizations, is pleased to see their recommendations reflected in the announced reforms.
