New Plumbing Code Passed!

New changes to the Chicago Plumbing Code offer significant cost savings for owners and developers of multifamily and mixed-use buildings!

The ordinance was informed by the Alternative Plumbing Materials Pilot Program, which was created based on recommendations from the Compact and its partners. The Pilot program saved Chicago developers and property owners more than $38 million over the past four years.

The Chicago Plumbing Code amendments authorize expanded use of PVC for drain, waste, and vent piping for residential areas in buildings of up to 60 feet in height and will eliminate the need to apply for and receive an Alternative Code Approval Request.

The Chicago Department of Buildings has also released a code interpretation for the use of PVC in mixed-use buildings.
