State Affordable Housing Policy Highlights

Congratulations to our many partners, including the Illinois Housing Council, Housing Action Illinois, and Enterprise Community Partners, who worked tirelessly to secure critical resources for affordable housing in the most recent state legislative session. Highlights include:

• Passage of a bi-partisan capital budget which dedicates $200 million in funds for affordable housing.
  • An increase from the original budget proposal of $175 million.
• Protecting funds for the Illinois Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
  • The original budget proposal diverted 50% of funding designated for the IAHTF — approximately $21.5 million
• Gained momentum for a property tax incentive to preserve and create affordable rental housing.
  • Compact partners Housing Action Illinois and Enterprise will continue to advocate for the passage of HB 2168.
